Finally I got out of the house and did something. Finally I can cut the sentimental crap and return as a travel blog. So welcome back. Here's what went down today:
NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY. Thank goodness for free admission to the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery because they are gems. The portraits in the Tudor through Victorian era begin to blend together pretty easily, so if you find yourself there go spot the big deal pieces from those periods and move onto the 20th and 21st centuries because that's where it starts to get good. Here are my favorites though:
Dame Alice Ellen Terry by George Frederic Watts. I think that I liked this one because it is not just a portrait, but it has meaning beyond the recording of a face, as the red camellias symbolize worldly vanities and the violets in her left hand represent innocence and simplicity. It was probably as close to a Romantic work that I was gonna get in regards to portraits, so I was pleased.
Diana, Princess of Wales by Brian Organ. The simplicity here, like, I guess I like it. It's intimate and so different from the traditional and I quite fancy that.
Amy-Blue by Marlene Dumas. AMY WINEHOUSE IS IN THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY. WHY DOES THAT MAKE ME SO HAPPY?? The work itself is so cool though and I want to know more about the artist. Is that not the true sign of a good artist though? That you want ot investigate further on them.
The gallery is located at Trafalgar Square. I guess it's kinda a cool place.
So yep it was nice to leave the house.
BYE,
Kelsie
