Day Fifty-Eight:: Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)/La Bohème

The best holidays are the ones that's original meanings have been slightly lost and replaced by an easy to celebrate activity that doesn't much recall the original cause of celebration.  With that criteria, Pancake Day is among the best holidays.

Originating as a day that came before the 40 days of fasting for Lent, Shrove Tuesday was a feast which did have a good share of pancakes as they used up much of the eggs, milk, and sugar before that fasting began.

Today Shrove Tuesday is just a great excuse to go out to The Breakfast Club (yep, totally meant to recall the 1980s cinematic masterpiece) and get a plate of artisan pancakes and eat them and be so overcome by how good the cinnamon-bun-style, pecan-topped pancakes are that you completely forget that Lent is approaching.  Note: forgetting Lent is actually quite easy for me as I do not practice the tradition. It was quite heavenly though, making for a great Pancake Tuesday.

Today I saw my first opera, it was in Italian.  Even with the English subtitles I had no idea what was happening, however I was massively impressed by their voices and the set was beautiful.  I am not a big opera person though, and I am not feeling a massive urge to run to the next opera I can find.

Peace out,
Kelsie
